Gas and electricity prices on the rise

A further blow to British consumers, npower joined the list of the big energy providers that have recently increased gas and electricity prices.

marcus evans Optimising Diversified Generation Portfolio Forum attendees can consider this as one more sign that a diversified generation portfolio that includes renewable sources of energy may be the way forward for meeting future energy demands.

“With reduced quantities of North Sea gas, we are now forced to buy energy on the volatile global wholesale market,” said Kevin Miles, Chief Commercial Officer at RWE npower. “World events have pushed up prices and we believe this trend will continue.”

Starting from 1 October, single fuel customers will see an average increase of 15.7% for gas and 7.2% for electricity, according to the npower press release.

This is the “lowest increase announced by any major supplier. The new rates are on average £30 per year cheaper than British Gas, and cheaper than any other supplier who has increased prices on the same basis,” it added.

The highest price increase has been 19% for gas and 16% for electricity.

The marcus evans Optimising Diversified Generation Portfolio Forum will take place in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, 28-30 Sep 2011.

The conference will cover strategies for optimising a more diversified generation portfolio, not only for better production planning and dispatch scheduling, but also for ensuring network stability and sustainable profitability. The European energy industry has various hurdles to overcome, thus a new market model and innovative technologies are necessary.
