The
US military is the world’s largest consumer of fuel at a rate of more than
340,000 barrels per day and USD 13.6 billion per year. By some estimates, about half of the US military casualties in
Iraq and Afghanistan are related to attacks with improvised explosive devices
on convoys, many of which are carrying fuel. The Pentagon, which traditionally has not
made saving energy much of a priority, has launched initiatives to find
alternative fuel sources, and currently has a diverse energy portfolio.
The marcus evans
5th Annual Military Energy Alternatives conference will focus on
the renewable energy systems that are being developed to achieve the required
net zero goal.Discussion will focus on
the renewable path to energy security and how funds in the stimulus package have
been appropriated towards a clean energy goal.Interactive breakout sessions will consider base level energy usage and
the reduction of operational dependency on fossil fuels.A consideration will also be given to energy
consumption and climate change in a workshop discussion.
