US manufacturing boosted by new bill

President Obama has signed new legislation which aims to provide a boost to America's manufacturing sector.

The new law makes it easier for manufacturers to import raw materials that they can turn into finished goods by reducing or eliminating tariffs on them.

It is thought that small businesses will be especially boosted by the bill, which has been endorsed by the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) and received easy progress through Congress.

President Obama has targeted a doubling of American exports within five years and believes that boosting the manufacturing sector is vital to this. NAM estimates that the law could increase production by $4.6bn and support 90,000 jobs.
