The pharmaceutical market in CIS is dominated by generic drugs The pharmaceutical market in CIS is dominated by generic drugs. In the past few years we have witnessed its steady growth and the economic slowdown had little effect on the generic sector’s development. On the other hand due to inefficient system for control of manufacturers’ activity prices on drugs are much higher than in any other country outside CIS. The market is overflowed with imported original products too expensive for local use. Domestic drug manufacturers are reluctant to embark on innovative drug development due to lack of human and financial resources.
By recognizing the gaps in the market authorities are paying an increased attention to pharmaceutical market development. Governments are looking for broader goals of import independence of the local markets and introducing new laws and initiatives. Innovations in the regulatory system and tightened control over manufacturers detonated disputes among the market players. There are a lot of uncertainties in the future market development. What we know for certain is that the way the market works will change. Companies need new and better decisions at all levels of strategic execution in order to strengthen positions in the changing environment.
