Ipswich Town defender Tommy Smith was awarded the ‘New Zealand Nike Young Men’s Player of the Year’ award at a ceremony in his native country recently.
The award for 2010 was presented by the New Zealand Football Association to the 21-year-old player.
Smith has made 43 appearances for Ipswich Town and won nine caps for New Zealand. The award was in recognition of his performances at both club and international level.
“I feel very proud to play for New Zealand and representing my country in last summer’s World Cup was the highlight of my career so far. It means a lot to me,” he told the Ipswich Town website.
